Can't quite see what you're looking for? Well you're in the right place. At fig we are passionate makers and creators and we love the chance to make something new, just for you.
We like to think we do things differently to most shops because everything we sell here is handmade. Often, things we sell are a one-off; they're completely unique and you won't find them anywhere else in the world!
I (Kate) am an embroiderer and some of the things I make are made only to commission. I have been stitching people and their pets for several years now and all I need is a photograph or two. I use scraps of material, appliquéd onto canvas and then hand stitch over the top to create an illustrative embroidered portrait. They usually take me about a week to make and cost £65 per single portrait.
Below is a picture showing a family I stitched recently, with their beloved dog.
I also embroider maps and they can be personalised with specific landmarks. This is a lovely way to celebrate a special occasion and makes a really unusual and wonderful gift.
Here are some examples of my map making......
We are very lucky at fig to have a silver jewellery maker, Jemima Lumley, who designs and makes a wonderful range of delicate jewellery which she will make to order to ensure a perfect fit. One of her collections is made to commission only - her "name" necklaces and charm bracelets. This is a collection of bracelets and necklaces which she makes with either a whole name or an initial using her own cursive handwriting style. She also makes an array of silver charms which can be added to bracelets or used as pendants and make the perfect gift for a gift with a personal touch.
Below are some pictures showing her work.
Robyn Coetzee, our resident glass artist, makes hugely popular, beautiful and colourful glass bird and fish ornaments and glass jewellery and vessels. She responds to customers requests for particular colours or sizes by presenting them with a large choice! Here is a picture showing a recent batch bake....
And as if that wasn't enough, Katie Wallis, textile designer, designs an incredible range of fabrics, often with a bee theme. You can come into fig, flip though her magic book of samples and then order a cushion or a lampshade made especially for you. She can even modulate colours if you want!

Being asked to make something different can sometimes lead to us, as artists, to learning new techniques which we might not have otherwise learnt or used. It can push us in new directions and take us away from our comfort zone!
It's easy to get stuck in a rut so commissions are a lovely way to turn a corner.
